Embracing the Sweet End of Summer Days

As August ushers in its final act, a familiar bittersweet sentiment fills the air. It feels like just yesterday we were marking off the blissful 86 days of summer vacation, and now, with only 19 days left until school bells ring, time seems to accelerate at an astonishing pace. These precious remaining weeks are a treasure trove of last-minute adventures and memory-making moments. Our calendar is packed with splashes at the community pool, an exciting road trip to Iowa to visit cherished friends, and those quintessential summer evenings where “ice cream for dinner” becomes a perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, main course.

We’ve already celebrated the final t-ball game, refined our strokes in the last swim lesson, and cheered enthusiastically at the summer gymnastics meet. Now, it’s officially “go time” – a period dedicated to maximizing every last drop of summer fun, ensuring we create a collection of cherished memories to carry us through the cooler months ahead. The thought of my children returning to school brings a wave of anxiety, as I’m simply not ready to bid farewell to the glorious lack of a rigid schedule. I adore the unhurried rhythm of summer, rolling out of bed whenever we feel rested, and spontaneously choosing the day’s activities on a whim.

In just a few short weeks, the serene mornings will be replaced by the familiar rush: alarms blaring at 6:30 AM, lunchboxes to pack, children to dress, backpacks to fill, and teeth to brush – often a frantic dash out the door to ensure no one misses that crucial first bell. It’s a drastic shift, and part of me yearns for the lazy days to stretch on indefinitely.

However, another perspective offers a silver lining: the promise of more “me” time. Once the kids are safely dropped off at school, I can reclaim my mornings for invigorating gym sessions, revel in the satisfaction of a clean house that might actually *stay* clean for a good six hours, focus on my work, and even have dinner prepared at a reasonable hour. And perhaps, just perhaps, I can indulge in a glorious Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Cookie Bowl, all to myself, in blissful solitude. Suddenly, a schedule doesn’t sound quite so dreadful after all.

Rediscovering the Joy of Ice Cream: A Sweet Journey

Believe it or not, there was a peculiar period in my life when I convinced myself I didn’t like ice cream. I’m still not entirely sure if it was genuine distaste or merely a misguided attempt to appear “cool” by disliking a universally beloved treat. Regardless, I abstained from its creamy delights for several years. Then, I had children. And children, bless their hearts, possess an innate, unwavering love for ice cream. Through their joyous insistence, I rediscovered what I had been missing for so long – a simple, pure pleasure that brings smiles and satisfaction.

My earliest and fondest ice cream memories transport me back to childhood, when my dad would take my sister and me to “The Black Cow,” our town’s quaint ice cream shop. It was my absolute favorite, and without fail, I’d always choose the same thing: vibrant green mint chocolate chip ice cream nestled in a crisp sugar cone. To this very day, mint chocolate chip remains my ultimate favorite, provided it retains its signature green hue. I’ve also recently discovered a surprisingly delicious healthy ice cream option that truly hits the spot, and who can argue with the legendary quality of Ben & Jerry’s? If you haven’t yet tried “The Tonight Dough” flavor, consider this your urgent recommendation – try it, then try it again!

Baking Made Easy: Crafting Memories with NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE®

My kids absolutely adore helping in the kitchen, especially when it involves baking cookies, and I cherish every moment. It’s not just about mixing ingredients; it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to connect, spend quality time together, and teach them invaluable life skills. Every child, I believe, should know the simple magic of creating the perfect chocolate chip cookie from scratch. However, there are those days when the thought of spending hours in the kitchen, only for it to resemble a culinary warzone, isn’t quite so appealing. For those moments, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More Cookie Baking Mixes are an absolute lifesaver.

I recently spotted these innovative baking mixes during a Target run and immediately added them to my cart. They’re perfect for those impromptu baking sessions, especially on a rainy day, which, incidentally, happens to be our favorite kind of day to bake. With four exciting new varieties available, I wasn’t sure which to choose, so naturally, I decided to purchase them all! NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® truly understands the art of baking. After all, they’ve perfected the chocolate chip cookie recipe, gracing the back of their chip bags for over 75 years. This heritage speaks volumes about their expertise. What’s even better is their commitment to quality, with no artificial flavors or colors (added colors from natural sources), which is a huge plus in my book!

My children were absolutely thrilled to discover that the cookie and brownie mixes featured Butterfinger baking chips – they’re huge fans of Butterfingers! And I was equally delighted because these convenient baking mixes only required ingredients I already had on hand: butter, eggs, and water. I knew instantly how our afternoon would be wonderfully spent – creating something delicious together.

The Ingenious Idea: Edible Cookie Bowls

An exciting idea sparked in my mind: what if we could make edible ice cream bowls out of cookies? I frequently prepare homemade tortilla bowls for salads, as demonstrated in my BBQ Steak Taco Bowls recipe, so I figured a similar technique using a tortilla bowl maker would work perfectly for cookies. This concept promised a fun, interactive, and deliciously edible twist to our dessert experience.

To bring this vision to life, I opted for the NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More with Butterfingers Baking Mix. Following the simple package directions, I combined the mix with the required butter, one egg, and water. Once the dough was perfectly mixed, I chilled it in the refrigerator for a crucial hour. This step is vital for making the dough easier to handle and ensures the cookie bowls hold their shape beautifully during baking.

After chilling, I removed the dough and carefully pressed approximately one cup of it into each tortilla bowl maker. The key here is to distribute the dough evenly, pressing it firmly up the sides and into the wells of the mold. It’s important to ensure the dough isn’t too thin, especially at the base, to create a sturdy, functional, and delicious edible bowl that can withstand a generous scoop of ice cream and all your favorite toppings.

Baking Perfection: Tips for Your Cookie Bowls

Achieving the perfect cookie bowl requires a little attention during the baking process. I initially baked the cookie bowls for 10 minutes. Upon removing them from the oven, I noticed that the center of the bowl wasn’t cooking as quickly as the sides. To remedy this, I gently spread out the dough a little more, particularly thinning the center slightly by scooping out a small amount of excess dough. This ensures a more even bake and a consistent texture throughout the bowl.

I then placed the bowls back into the oven for an additional 5 minutes. After this second bake, I repeated the smoothing and spreading process, again making sure the center wasn’t too thick. Finally, they went back into the oven for another 5 minutes. This multi-stage baking, totaling 20 minutes, is key to developing a beautifully golden-brown, structurally sound cookie bowl that is crispy on the edges and perfectly soft in the middle.

Once baked to perfection, I allowed the cookie bowls to cool completely within their molds. This cooling period is absolutely essential for the bowls to set and firm up, making them easy to remove without breaking. After they were fully cooled, I gently inverted the molds and gave them a light tap on the counter. And voilà! Out popped the most wonderfully aromatic and perfectly shaped NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More with Butterfingers Baking Mix Ice Cream bowls, ready for their grand filling.

Assembling The Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Bowl

The moment of truth had arrived: assembling The Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Bowl. Into the warm, golden-brown cookie bowl, I layered half a sliced banana, generous scoops of creamy Toasted S’mores and rich Peanut Butter ice cream. Next came a swirling cloud of whipped cream, a shower of colorful sprinkles, a sprinkle of delectable Brownies & More with Butterfingers pieces, and of course, a bright red cherry perched elegantly on top. This, my friends, is it. This is the masterpiece. A magnificent twist on your classic ice cream sundae, elevated to an extraordinary level.

The reaction from my kids was priceless – they absolutely flipped out! They were utterly shocked and delighted that we had managed to create such a sturdy and delicious bowl entirely from cookie dough. The simplicity of this dessert is truly remarkable. It requires minimal ingredients, straightforward preparation, and a manageable cook time, making it perfect for a fun family activity.

As a bonus, we had some dough left over, so we baked a few traditional cookies alongside our bowls. Needless to say, they were gobbled up almost immediately! All it took was a cozy rainy day, a couple of boxes of NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More Cookie Baking Mixes, and a little over an hour of joyful prep and bake time. And the absolute best part? You get to eat the bowl! It’s an interactive, zero-waste dessert that doubles the fun.

Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are molded into bowls and piled high with all your favorite ice cream sundae favorites. Now you can have your ice cream and eat the bowl too! The Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Bowl is an ice cream lover’s dream.

Ingredients

  • 1 box NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More Cookies with Butterfingers Baking Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • Ice cream of choice
  • Assorted toppings of choice (e.g., whipped cream, sprinkles, fruit, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with Butterfingers pieces, cherry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a tortilla bowl maker or the inside of oven-safe bowls with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Prepare the NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Cookies & More Cookies with Butterfingers Baking Mix according to the package directions, combining with softened butter, egg, and water until a cohesive dough forms.
  4. Place the prepared dough in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour. This step is crucial for making the dough easier to handle and ensuring the bowls hold their shape.
  5. Remove the chilled dough and evenly press about 1 cup of dough into each tortilla bowl maker or oven-safe bowl. Ensure you press the dough firmly into the wells, up the sides, and aim for a slightly thinner bottom for even baking.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Carefully remove from the oven.
  7. While hot, use a spoon to smooth out the dough, pressing it up against the sides again. If the center appears too thick or isn’t baking as quickly as the sides, gently scrape out a small amount of dough to even the thickness.
  8. Place the bowls back into the oven for another 5 minutes. Remove and repeat the smoothing and pressing process if necessary to ensure even cooking.
  9. Return to the oven for a final 5 minutes, or until the cookie bowls are golden brown and cooked through. Total baking time should be approximately 20 minutes.
  10. Allow the cookie bowls to cool completely in their molds on a wire rack. This is vital for them to set and become sturdy before removal.
  11. Once cooled, gently remove the cookie bowls from their molds. Assemble your Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae Bowl with your favorite ice cream flavors and an abundance of toppings. (We highly recommend adding pieces of Toll House Brownies & More with Butterfingers for extra crunch!)
  12. Serve immediately and enjoy every last, edible bite!
