Embrace Lighter Grilling: The Joy of Turkey Burgers

Summertime grilling holds a special place in my heart. There’s nothing quite like gathering on the patio, the aroma of a sizzling burger filling the air, and enjoying a perfect meal under the warm sun. However, the heavy feeling that often follows a traditional beef burger can sometimes dampen the post-meal bliss. We’ve all experienced that sluggishness, the desire for a nap instead of continuing to enjoy the beautiful day.

This is precisely why Jennie-O turkey burgers have become a staple in my kitchen, especially during the warmer months. They offer all the satisfying flavor of your favorite grilled burger, but with significantly less guilt. Opting for turkey allows me to indulge in a hearty, flavorful meal without compromising my health and wellness goals. Whether you’re watching your weight or simply seeking a lighter option, Jennie-O turkey burgers empower you to maintain your healthy lifestyle year-round.

The Mediterranean Secret: Relish & Tzatziki Perfection

What elevates a good turkey burger to an extraordinary one? The toppings! Our homemade Cucumber Tomato Relish is a game-changer. Imagine a vibrant blend of crisp cucumbers, juicy roma tomatoes, sharp red onion, briny Kalamata olives, and creamy feta cheese. Each bite offers a burst of fresh, tangy, and savory notes that perfectly complement the grilled turkey patty. Sometimes, I confess, I could eat this relish straight from the bowl!

But the magic doesn’t stop there. A generous dollop of cool, refreshing cucumber dill tzatziki sauce transforms this burger into an authentic Greek masterpiece. The creamy yogurt base, fresh dill, minced garlic, and a hint of lemon provide a delightful counterpoint to the rich flavors of the relish and the perfectly seasoned turkey. Together, these toppings create a symphony of textures and tastes that will transport your palate straight to the Greek Isles.

My Journey to Burger Mastery (with a Little Help from Jennie-O)

Like many home cooks, I’ve been on a perpetual “burger kick” for as long as I can remember. While a classic beef burger has its charm, my preference leans heavily towards lighter, equally delicious alternatives like turkey, chicken, or even black bean burgers. Being health-conscious means I can’t always indulge in heavier meats, and thankfully, the world of poultry and plant-based burgers offers incredible variety and flavor.

For years, my homemade burgers were, shall we say, a work in progress. Achieving that perfect patty shape and consistent cooking was a challenge. Then I discovered the magic of a burger press, which certainly improved my skills. However, when time is of the essence, or I simply crave ultimate convenience without sacrificing quality, Jennie-O turkey burgers are my go-to solution. They come pre-formed and ready for the grill, taking the guesswork and prep work out of mealtime.

Prepping for Success: Relish First!

To ensure maximum freshness and allow the flavors to meld beautifully, I always start by preparing the Cucumber Tomato Relish. Once assembled, it goes straight into the refrigerator to chill while the burgers are cooking. This simple step ensures that the relish is perfectly cool and ready to deliver a refreshing bite when it’s time to assemble your burgers.

Quick and Easy: Gourmet Flavor in Minutes

One of the best aspects of these Greek Turkey Burgers with Cucumber Tomato Relish is how incredibly fast they come together. In roughly the same amount of time it takes to cook the burgers—about 20 minutes—you can have all your components ready and waiting. This makes it an ideal recipe for busy weeknights or impromptu backyard barbecues when you want to impress without spending hours in the kitchen.

  • 12 Kalamata olives, pitted and diced
  • 1/4 cup feta cheese (reduced fat option available)

For the Greek Turkey Burgers

  • 4- Jennie-O Turkey Burgers (All White variety used for this recipe)
  • 2 teaspoons Cavenders Greek Seasoning
  • 4 romaine lettuce leaves
  • 1/4 cup tzatziki sauce (use store-bought or follow the homemade recipe above)
  • 4 hamburger buns (80 calorie whole wheat buns are a great choice)

*Cook’s Note for Tzatziki: After grating the cucumber, place it into a cheesecloth or a clean hand towel and squeeze out as much excess liquid as possible. This crucial step prevents a watery tzatziki sauce.

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine all tzatziki ingredients. Stir well to combine. Cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

For the Cucumber Tomato Relish

  1. In a separate small bowl, combine all relish ingredients. Mix gently. Cover and store in the refrigerator until the burgers are cooked and ready for assembly.

For the Greek Turkey Burgers

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat. Once hot, place the frozen Jennie-O turkey burgers directly onto the grill grates. Grill for 9-10 minutes on the first side.
  2. Flip the burgers. Generously sprinkle the cooked side with Cavenders Greek Seasoning. Continue grilling for an additional 9-10 minutes on the second side, or until the burgers are fully cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  3. To assemble your Greek Turkey Burgers: Place a romaine lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with a grilled turkey burger, a tablespoon of the prepared tzatziki sauce, and a generous spoonful of the fresh cucumber tomato relish. Serve immediately and enjoy!
